The CHEE 101 (Introduction to Chemical Engineering) class this Fall semester is participating in the nationwide challenge for college students, the “Alka-Rocket Challenge” by Bayer. The challenge calls for students of 4-year accredited universities and colleges nationwide to design, create, and launch model rockets propelled by the gas pressure created by the reaction between Alka-Seltzer tablets and water. Five teams have been working on their own designs for the past two months in CHEE 101. The final competition will be held in December at the Kennedy Space Center.
