About Us
The Department of Chemical Engineering teaches established and contemporary scientific and engineering principals, to ensure our graduates are prepared to find professional solutions in petroleum, biotechnology, and environmental process and manufacturing industries, along with consulting companies and governmental agencies. We have a strong academic, service, and research foundation. We prepare outstanding engineers.
Our current research projects have a total value of about $5 million, and we support the Energy Institute of Louisiana and the Institute of Materials and the Research Innovations activities. Housing the institutes' main instrumentation laboratories gives our students and faculty the opportunity to explore general, renewable energy, and materials solutions. CHEE faculty members lead IMRI and EIL providing more research opportunities to faculty and students. Our department has eight research-active faculty members, three instructors, and one professor of practice. We provide a strong service and commitment toward facilitating the education of our students.
Our department currently has over 260 students, and our enrollment has more than doubled in the last six years. About 40 percent of our chemical engineering students are female, and the number of African American students within the department has doubled over the last six years. Our students have come to study at UL Lafayette from at least 10 different states.
We offer a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, a dual degree program in chemistry and chemical engineering, and the option of specializing in environmental applications, bioengineering, or materials. Our graduate programs include a Masters of Science in chemical engineering and a doctorate in systems engineering with an available concentration in chemical engineering.
