| American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) The student chapter of AIChE at UL Lafayette is the primary student organization in the department. This organization has a room in Madison Hall where students gather to study and discuss various student activities. It is AIChE that organizes our effort for “Engineering Day”. This includes sports of football, volleyball, basketball and softball played between engineering departments. For the past several years Chemical Engineering has won “Best Department” on Engineering Day. AIChE organizes out of town field trips to various process plants. They also organize trips to the Spring AIChE meeting and to National AIChE meetings. Dr. James R. Reinhardt is the student chapter advisor. |

| National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) During the summer of 2003 the Department of Chemical Engineering formed the first ever NACE student chapter. The 12 charter members are all NACE student members and they will meet with the local Teche Chapter at the Petroleum Club each month. The Teche Chapter will provide speakers and meals to the students that attend the meetings. Scholarships are planned for student members with perfect attendance. The International NACE meeting will be held in New Orleans in the spring of 2004 and the chapter is planning to attend. Attendance at this meeting is free of charge for student members. Dr. James D. Garber is the student chapter advisor. |

| Omega Chi Epsilon The Chemical Engineering Honor Society is Omega Chi Epsilon. The Alpha Chi Chapter was formed in 1979 and has continued to honor students who achieve at least a 3.0 gpa in Chemical Engineering. This student chapter helps maintain the AIChE room in Madison Hall and provides tutoring to Chemical Engineering students. The initiation ceremony is performed once a year, usually in the spring. Dr. James D. Garber is the faculty advisory for this society. |
