The Department of Chemical Engineering teaches established and contemporary scientific and engineering principles, so our graduates are prepared to find professional solutions in petroleum, biotechnology, and environmental process and manufacturing industries, along with consulting companies and with governmental agencies.
Our research projects have a total value of $1.5 million, and we support Energy Institute research activities, housing the institute's main instrumentation laboratories so students and faculty can explore general and renewable energy solutions. Our department has eight research-active faculty members and one professor of practice.
Our department currently has over 240 students, and our enrollment has more than doubled in the last six years. About 40 percent of our chemical engineering students are female, and the number of African American students in our department has doubled over the last six years. Our students have come to study at UL Lafayette from at least 10 different states.
We offer an Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, a dual degree program in chemistry and chemical engineering, and the option of specializing in environmental applications, bioprocessing, or materials. Our graduate programs include a Master of Science in chemical engineering and a doctorate in systems engineering with an available concentration in chemical engineering.
