Educational Objectives

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Chemical Engineering program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is to provide highly qualified graduates who are well trained for industry or for graduate school.

Background of Mission Statement

The Chemical Engineering Department at UL Lafayette was started in 1942 to provide technical support to the chemical and petroleum industries in the State of Louisiana. These industries have grown tremendously since that time and so has the confidence of the local students who now search for jobs throughout the nation. In addition to working in industry numerous graduates have gone on for advanced degrees in engineering, medicine, law and business to expand their role in the world in which they live. It is true that this 65-year-old program has been satisfying the mission statement and will continue to do so.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The Education Objectives of the Chemical Engineering program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette are as follow:

Our graduates will use their science and engineering skill set to solve contemporary problems in the discipline, including consideration of economic, environmental, safety and ethical issues.

Our graduates will be capable of performing well in teams or individually and will be able to communicate effectively.

The department provides a quality chemical engineering education to allow our graduates to meet the current needs of local, state, and global industries and to adapt to the new engineering challenges of the future.

A fundamental understanding of material science and engineering will be a characteristic of our graduates.

Our graduates will be able to utilize computers in various facets of the workplace
