Although the department dropped its metallurgy laboratory several years
ago, this laboratory is still being upgraded for corrosion and materials
research, and it is used for demonstrations in the Materials Science course
(CHEE 317) and the Corrosion Engineering course (CHEE 402) and the new Advanced
Materials course (CHEE 427). The laboratory is located in Madison 212 and
has 960 sq. ft of available area.
The laboratory contains grinding and polishing equipment. It also has microscopes
and a metallograph. The metal hardness can be determined with a Rockwell
or Microhardness tester. There are 2-portable electrochemical solution units
that allow for demonstration of various corrosion tests such as Tafel plots,
linear polarization, AC Impedance, and Harmonic Impedance. No additional
equipment has been added to this laboratory since the last visit. |
