The
Corrosion Research Center offers various educational opportunities.
- University Courses. The Department of Chemical Engineering offers undergraduate
courses in Materials of Engineering and Corrosion Engineering. A graduate
course in Corrosion has a specific slant toward oilfield proble
- Industrial Short Courses. During the summer, various center personnel
are available to teach corrosion courses "in house" that are designed
specifically for a company's needs. Courses of this type have been taught
in Lafayette, New Orleans, Houston, Great Britain, Singapore, and Jakarta.
- NACE Involvement. Dr. Garber is the NACE Educational Chairman of the
Local (Lafayette) section. He has a UL Lafayette Center presentation each
year and has taught annually at the Offshore Corrosion Seminar in New Orleans
and the Gulf Coast Corrosion Seminar in Houston.
- Petroleum Training Service (PTS). The UL Lafayette Corrosion Research
Center offers an "Oilfield Corrosion Technologist" and "Oilfield
Corrosion Specialist" certification. The courses offered include:
- One 5-day Basic Corrosion Course
- Four 3-day Courses:
- Metallurgy
- Cathodic Protection
- Inhibitor
- Coatings
