|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| This is the primary laboratory taken by our Chemical Engineering students.
They become exposed to fluids, heat transfer and mass transfer equipments.
All of the units operate separately and demonstrate theoretical principles
taught in various courses. The major equipment is located in Madison 110,
which has a physical area of 2,076 sq. ft. There is additional equipment
on the second floor of Madison 210 with 680 sq. ft. Madison 112 has benches
on which several new pieces of equipment are located. It has an area of
700 sq. ft. There are approximately 12 unit operations in room 110, which can be used by the students. It has a 30-60 psi boiler along with running water, compressed air and vacuum capabilities. Since the last ABET visit the additional units are two control experiments, one is a heat exchanger unit and the other is a dual loop control apparatus. A plate and frame heat exchanger and a hydrogen fuel cell were recently purchased last spring for the laboratory. In Madison 112 there have been several additions which have been made. There is a stirred tank reactor in series with data logging equipment, a fermenter with pH control, and isotemperature gravity flow oven. More recently an ASTM Distillation apparatus was purchased and put into that room for crude oil characterization. Storage cabinets for acids and volatile solvents are also located here. |
