Undergraduate

Our students are getting competitive job offers for internships, co-op, and full time positions with chemical process and service industries. Some of the companies extending offers to our students include Cabot, Albemarle, Citgo, Fluor, Cimation, and Baker Hughes.

Citgo has committed funds to establish co-op scholarships, travel stipends to national meetings, senior design team awards, and the Citgo Top Graduate Award. Distribution of funds began spring 2014.

Recent Undergraduate Research

Chemical engineering major John Pippins III is utilizing our partnership with the Cleco Alternative Energy Center in Crowley, La. to produce biomass with better chemical and physical properties for producing power and chemicals. He is conducting his research under Dean of the College of Engineering Dr. Mark Zappi.

Thanks to Cabot, Melissa Mason, a chemical engineering senior, Engineering Ambassador, and leader in the Society of Women Engineers and AIChE, attended the 2013 AIChE National Conference to present research results on the production of lipids using waste from sweet potato farm operations. Lipids generated could be used to produce biofuels and/or specialty chemicals. This type of support from industry highlights the accomplishments of our students and expands opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and life-long learning skills.
